In the winter of 2014, a young man's life was cut short on the streets of St. Louis. Erick Burney, a 21-year-old male, was walking westbound in the 1500 block of Montgomery Street on the afternoon of January 27th. It was just after 1:30 p.m. in the St. Louis Place neighborhood when a vehicle approached him.
Without warning, an individual inside the car opened fire on Burney. He was struck in the chest and legs by the gunfire. Witnesses at the scene quickly transported him to a local hospital in an attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts and those of the medical staff, Erick Burney was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are leading the investigation into the shooting. At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the case. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for Erick Burney's death.
