Michael Darrough, a 38-year-old male from Lake Dallas, Texas, tragically lost his life on February 6, 2021. He was fatally shot multiple times in the parking lot of the Lakeshore Apartments in Lake Dallas. Darrough was found wounded around 2:30 a.m. when police responded to an active shooter call. Despite being rushed to Medical City Denton for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, two individuals were arrested in connection with Darrough's death.
Shineisha Renee Mann, 42, and Lindsey Ladell Crumpton II, 34, were taken into custody on murder charges. Both suspects were later booked into the Denton County Jail, with bail set at $1 million each. The investigation into Darrough's death continued, with law enforcement working diligently to gather evidence and build a case against the suspects.
However, the legal proceedings faced significant challenges. In early 2024, a judge dismissed the murder case against Brandon Johnson, one of the individuals arrested in connection with Darrough's death. The dismissal was due to "evidentiary failings" and "negligence" on the part of the Lake Dallas Police Department, which led to delays and violations of due process. The Denton County District Attorney's office filed an appeal against the dismissal, seeking to reinstate the charges and continue the pursuit of justice for Darrough's family.
The case remains ongoing, with the appellate process expected to take several months. Darrough's family continues to seek closure and justice for his untimely death, hoping that the legal system will ultimately hold those responsible accountable.
