On April 13, 2021, Cody Gilpin, a 17-year-old male from Hitchcock, Texas, was found shot to death in Jack Brooks Park. Cody was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in a grassy area of the park by a police officer conducting a routine check. The officer found Cody's body near his bicycle, approximately 100 feet from the park's entrance gate. The exact time of Cody's death was unclear, but family members reported that he was last seen the previous night.
