Richard Allen Powell, a 37-year-old man from Webster, Texas, tragically lost his life on July 9, 2021. Powell, who was known to use methamphetamine, had driven to a gas station in Webster where his car got stuck in the mud. Another man tried to help him but also got his vehicle stuck. The building owner became upset and asked Christapher Jones, a 30-year-old man from Dickinson, to help pull both cars out with his truck.
Jones, who was also using methamphetamine at the time, became
involved in an argument with Powell and others behind the gas station. Armed with a handgun, Jones threatened Powell and the others. Powell attempted to walk away and stated that he was going to call the police. As Powell turned and began walking away, Jones shot him multiple times in the side and back. Powell died in his mother's arms at the scene.
The Houston Police Department investigated the case, and Christapher Jones was later convicted of murder. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the killing. The district attorney emphasized that there was no reason for Jones to pull out a gun and start shooting, highlighting the ongoing issue of gun violence in the community.
This tragic incident left behind Powell's elderly mother and three children who will never see their father again. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of mixing drugs, short tempers, and firearms.
