Upon arriving at the scene approximately around 3:00 a.m., first responders discovered a vehicle parked at the location. Inside, they found 35-year-old Laurence A. McCauley, a Black male, seated in the driver's side seat and slumped over toward the passenger side.
A closer inspection revealed that McCauley had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel declared him deceased at the scene, marking the incident as a homicide rather than a medical distress case. The investigation was immediately handed over to the Kansas City Police Department's homicide unit to determine the events leading up to the shooting and to identify those responsible for the violence.
