Cody Russell Lovelady Jr., a 21-year-old white male from Flint, Texas, tragically passed away on February 25, 2022. Cody was found deceased alongside Jarah Breann Shelton, a 21-year-old white female from Tyler, Texas, in a black Ford F-250 truck on the side of FM 2868 near Highway 155 in Smith County, Texas. The vehicle was still running when a Smith County deputy discovered the bodies. Jarah was found in the driver's seat holding a handgun, and Cody was found next to her in the front seat.

Initial reports suggested that the incident might have been a murder-suicide. However, after a thorough investigation and autopsy performed by Forensic Medical in Tyler, it was determined that the deaths were a result of a double suicide. The Smith County Sheriff's Office confirmed that there were no witnesses to the event, and the forensic evidence supported the conclusion of a double suicide rather than a murder-suicide.
