Alyssa Beth Flores, a 22-year-old woman from Wills Point, Texas, tragically passed away on August 12, 2022, in Edgewood, Texas. She was of Hispanic ethnicity and was known to be a sweet and loving person who enjoyed crafts, YouTube, and dancing. Alyssa worked as a waitress at En Laces in Edgewood and was survived by her parents, siblings, and her young son, Braylen Marquez.
The circumstances surrounding her death involved a high-speed chase and a shooting incident.
On the day of her death, Edgewood police responded to reports of shots fired in the 400 block of Downs Street. They found Alyssa dead at the scene, and a 5-month-old child was taken from the scene by the suspect. The suspect, Braylon Diamente Hicks, led police on a high-speed chase that ended in Forney, Texas. Hicks eventually exited his vehicle and was found to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was taken into custody and later charged with murder, abandonment/endangerment of a child, and evading arrest with a vehicle.
In October 2022, Hicks was booked into the Van Zandt County Jail, and in April 2024, he was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Alyssa Beth Flores. The 5-month-old child who was taken from the scene was found unharmed and taken into custody by Child Protective Services for evaluation.
The case drew significant attention due to the tragic nature of Alyssa's death and the subsequent legal proceedings against Hicks. The community mourned the loss of a young woman who was described as kind and loving, and her family continues to seek justice for her untimely death.
