On September 24, 2014, 39-year-old Angela Beverly, a female, was fatally shot outside her home in Kodak, Tennessee. A dedicated first assistant manager at a Sevierville McDonald's and a recent criminal justice graduate from South College, she had aspirations of becoming the restaurant's manager.
That morning, as Angela was taking out the trash, she was confronted by her estranged husband, 45-year-old Andrew Beverly.
He had arrived at the residence on Eagle View Drive with a gun, intending to confront a man who was living with his estranged wife. A physical altercation ensued, and Angela screamed for help. A friend inside the house, Jabari Shariff Dial, witnessed Andrew Beverly holding Angela around her shoulders and head before shooting her with a small black firearm.
After the shooting, Andrew Beverly fled to Harlan County, Kentucky, where he had previously lived and worked. He was arrested there without incident later that same day at a convenience store. Beverly subsequently waived extradition and was returned to Sevier County, Tennessee, to face charges. In a jailhouse interview, he confessed to the killing, expressing remorse and stating that he did not mean to shoot his wife, claiming the gun went off accidentally when he grabbed her. He admitted he had gone to the house to harm or kill the man who was living with her.
The investigation revealed a history of domestic violence. Court records indicated that Angela Beverly had previously filed for an order of protection and had reported being physically assaulted by her husband in August of that year, an incident for which she sought medical treatment. Andrew Beverly was charged with first-degree murder in connection with his wife's death.
