On a Friday evening in downtown St. Louis, what began as a gathering of friends inside a Hooters restaurant ended in a burst of gunfire that left one man dead and two others wounded. Lamarcus Turner, a 28-year-old male, was fatally shot on January 27, 2017, as he and a group of men were leaving the establishment.
The group had been sitting together inside the restaurant and as they exited, a truck reportedly pulled up and someone inside opened fire on them.
The attack appeared to be a targeted event, according to witnesses at the scene. The hail of bullets struck Turner, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Two other men with him were also hit; a 26-year-old was shot in the wrist and a 33-year-old was wounded in the foot. Both of these men were reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, St. Louis police were left with few leads and publicly stated that they had not identified any suspects. The investigation into the death of Lamarcus Turner was launched, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
