In Dickson, Tennessee, on March 20, 2017, a domestic altercation tragically ended the life of 47-year-old Kevin Rich. Inside his home on Log Wall Road, a dispute with his wife, Deirdre Rich, escalated to a fatal conclusion. Following the argument, Deirdre Rich retrieved a shotgun, loaded it, and fired a single shot that struck and killed her husband.
When authorities arrived, they found Kevin Rich deceased from a gunshot wound, with the shotgun lying near his feet.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of Deirdre Rich. Initially, she was charged with second-degree murder and held in the Dickson County Jail on a $350,000 bond. The case proceeded through the legal system, culminating in a trial that began in March 2021. This trial was notably the first to be held in the new Dickson County Justice Center, with strict COVID-19 protocols in place.
After a four-day trial, the jury found Deirdre Rich guilty of the more severe charge of first-degree premeditated murder for the shooting death of her husband. Consequently, she was sentenced to life in prison. Deirdre Rich later appealed her conviction, but the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals upheld the original judgment of the trial court, solidifying the life sentence for the murder of Kevin Rich.
