In the spring of 2018, the life of 21-year-old Marlon Anderson was tragically cut short. The young man from Trenton, Tennessee, was fatally wounded on the evening of May 27, 2018. The incident unfolded inside a vehicle where an exchange of gunfire erupted, and a bullet struck Anderson in the abdomen. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation that followed the shooting led to the arrests of four men.
Two individuals, Cornelius Pledge, 21, and Charles Crawford, 23, both from Humboldt, faced the most severe charges, including first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. They were also charged with employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and aggravated assault.
Two other men, 38-year-old James Hyde of Trenton and 31-year-old Atovise Cunningham of Milan, were also taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. They were charged with attempted first-degree murder, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and aggravated assault. Hyde faced an additional charge for being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon. Following their arrests, Pledge, Hyde, and Cunningham were held at the Gibson County Correctional Complex.
Investigators determined that Anderson was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. The inquiry into the motive and the precise sequence of events that led to Marlon Anderson's untimely death continued as authorities sought to bring all those responsible to justice.
