On February 19, 2019, Lenor Vazquez Silva, 39, was found dead inside a home on Oak Grove Road in Dandridge, Tennessee, after what authorities described as a domestic situation that quickly turned fatal. Deputies were dispatched to the residence and arrived within minutes, stepping into a tense, uncertain scene where a child stood at the doorway—close enough to the danger that the first priority became getting the child to safety.
As deputies reached the house, an adult man ran out behind the child. In the chaotic moments that followed, he told deputies that someone had been shot, and investigators later reported that he stated he had “shot his wife” before shutting the door again, sealing the home and the truth of what happened inside behind a barrier of silence. Officers moved the unharmed child away from the residence, then tried repeatedly to make contact with anyone still inside, but the attempts went nowhere.
Hours stretched as the situation remained unresolved. Ultimately, a special response team made entry at about 4:30 p.m. Eastern time. Inside, they found two people dead, and authorities emphasized that no shots were fired by law enforcement during the response. Outside, Oak Grove Road was blocked west of the Douglas Lake Campground while investigators processed the scene and worked to understand exactly what had unfolded.
By the next day, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department said its Criminal Investigation Division had completed a preliminary investigation and identified the man as Juan Lopez Pineda, 46. Investigators reported that he shot Vazquez Silva and then took his own life, framing the case as a murder-suicide rather than an incident involving an outside attacker. With the suspected shooter dead, there were no arrests, and the “suspect” named by authorities was the same person found deceased in the home.
Officials also stated there was no immediate threat to the public, a reassurance that suggested the violence was contained within the household rather than spilling outward into the community. Even so, the investigation was described as continuing, as detectives worked to document the events, preserve the record, and account for the human cost—especially for the child who escaped the doorway alive, leaving behind a home that had become a crime scene.
