In the quiet town of Bolivar, Tennessee, the life of 31-year-old Chiquita Lanea Stanley, a Black female, was abruptly cut short on August 9, 2022. The overnight hours brought tragedy to her home on East Jefferson Street, where a domestic dispute escalated to fatal violence. Responding to a call around 1 a.m., Bolivar Police Department officers discovered Stanley with a gunshot wound to the head.
She was rushed to Bolivar General Hospital, but her injuries proved too severe, and she was pronounced dead.
The investigation into her death quickly focused on her boyfriend, 28-year-old Nathaniel Ellis. At the scene, Ellis confessed to shooting Stanley. His admission led to his immediate arrest. Authorities have charged Ellis with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was taken into custody and is being held at the Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex as the investigation continues.

Her sudden and violent death has left her family seeking justice and a community in mourning. Her funeral was held on August 20, 2022, at Campbells Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member.
