Jose Cruz Jr., a 23-year-old Latino, was shot on November 29, 2012, near Cedar Avenue and Plymouth Street in Long Beach, California. He succumbed to his injuries on December 1, 2012, after spending several days in the hospital. According to the coroner's records, Cruz was the victim of a drive-by shooting, an all-too-common occurrence in certain areas of Long Beach during that period.
