In the summer of 1994, Renee Welka, a 22-year-old marketing student at Eastern Michigan University, was working as a waitress at a Mountain Jack's restaurant in Ann Arbor to pay for her education. Described as a vibrant individual who could light up a room, she was looking forward to her senior year of college.
