In the early moments of a Sunday morning, the life of Tyrell Boggs, a 29-year-old Black male, was brought to a tragic and abrupt end. On August 7, 2016, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Philadelphia Police officers were called to the 3400 block of Braddock Street in the Kensington neighborhood. There, they discovered Boggs lying in the street, having been shot multiple times.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed that he had died from his injuries.
Boggs, a husband and father, was returning home from a store when the fatal encounter occurred. He was not alone; his two young daughters and his 15-year-old sister were with him when two unidentified gunmen reportedly approached and opened fire. Additionally, Boggs was a professional boxer who had been involved in the sport since he was a child and was in training for an upcoming fight.
