Julias Jones, 37, a Black man, died in the early hours of November 26, 2025, after a police encounter that began as a violent altercation outside a Wayne County gentleman’s club and ended in a Trenton apartment complex parking lot. Hours earlier, officers say, he had been asked to leave Bogart’s Lounge in Inkster, but returned and became embroiled in a heated exchange with the on-site security guard. Investigators say that as the guard turned away, Jones rolled down the passenger-side window, drew the guard back toward the vehicle, and then fired a shot that struck the guard in the abdomen.
Inkster police issued an alert for his vehicle and pushed information to surrounding departments as the wounded guard was rushed to the hospital, listed in critical condition. The trail moved quickly south through the metro area, with police describing the suspect’s vehicle and, later, saying it was tracked to the Van Horn Road area in Trenton. Not long after, Trenton officers converged on the Bristol Hills apartment complex, where the confrontation with Jones unfolded beside his car in the dark, with neighbors hearing commands and then rapid gunfire.
Police accounts say Jones produced a firearm during the encounter, and officers responded by firing into the vehicle, killing him at the scene. His mother, who lived at the complex, disputed key moments of what happened, saying she witnessed the exchange and did not believe her son had a gun drawn, though she also acknowledged a gun was found in the car afterward. She described hearing officers’ orders and then a sudden escalation, insisting her son had been fearful for his life because of earlier threats and a prior shooting years before.
No officers were reported injured. With the shooting involving police, the investigation was turned over to Michigan State Police, and officials said they would examine the sequence of events, the use of force, and details such as how many shots were fired and by whom. In the criminal case that set the night in motion—the shooting of the security guard—Jones was identified as the suspect, but his death meant there was no arrest to make and no suspect to bring before a court, leaving investigators to piece together the final hours through witness accounts, physical evidence, and official reviews of the officer-involved shooting.
