On a tragic day in Enola, Pennsylvania, 51-year-old Joanna R. Miller, a woman known for her love of crocheting and cooking, was killed. Her life was cut short on April 10, 2021, when she was found deceased on the kitchen floor of her family's home on Greenmont Drive, the victim of a gunshot wound to the head. For 21 years, she had been a dedicated employee of the Pennsylvania State Police, a place where she had formed many cherished friendships.
The events of that Saturday evening
unfolded after police were called to the residence for a domestic dispute. Shortly after officers left, a call came into authorities from Joanna's 78-year-old father, John Miller. He informed the dispatcher that he had shot and killed his daughter, Joanna, and his wife, Melissia Hinton-Miller. When police returned to the home, they found Joanna deceased. Her mother, Melissia, was discovered in a bedroom, conscious but with two life-threatening gunshot wounds to her head. She was able to tell the police that her husband had shot her before she was transported to a local hospital. Melissia Hinton-Miller, 65, ultimately succumbed to her injuries ten days later.
John Miller was taken into custody at the scene. He had informed the police that the. 38 caliber handgun he used was on a table in the living room. He was the only other person present in the home at the time of the shootings. Prior to this incident, his record in Pennsylvania consisted of only minor summary charges. A preliminary hearing for John Miller on charges related to the death of his daughter and wife was scheduled for May of 2021.
