In the quiet afternoon of January 10, 2022, the life of 28-year-old Keishla Arroyo-Rodriguez was tragically cut short in her own Norristown, Pennsylvania apartment. A mother of three young children, she was in the shower when her ex-boyfriend, Elvyn Almodovar Rodriguez, let himself into her home. Her seven-year-old daughter, who was in the apartment with her two younger siblings, aged three and five, witnessed Rodriguez enter the bathroom. Shortly after, she heard several loud bangs.
The young girl then saw Rodriguez emerge from the bathroom, take her mother's car keys from a drawer, and leave the apartment. Peeking under the locked bathroom door, the child saw her mother lying motionless on the floor. In a moment of bravery, she called her father, who then dialed 911. When police arrived at the West Main Street apartment, they found Keishla deceased on the bathroom floor from a single gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation quickly focused on Elvyn Rodriguez, who was 32 at the time. The couple had recently ended their relationship just before Christmas, and he had moved out of the apartment. Investigators learned that the breakup had been contentious, with Rodriguez allegedly punching Keishla in the face on one occasion. He had also been contacting the father of her children, questioning if she had been seeing other men. The day after the murder, facing a public call for his whereabouts, Rodriguez turned himself in to authorities in York, Pennsylvania.
Elvyn Almodovar Rodriguez was charged with a range of offenses, including first and second-degree murder. In a turn of events to spare the victim's family the ordeal of a trial, he later pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, burglary, and possessing an instrument of crime. In exchange for his plea, the more severe murder charges were dropped. A judge sentenced him to a term of 32 and a half to 65 years in prison, bringing a somber conclusion to a case that began with a domestic dispute and ended in a devastating loss for a young family.
