On a tragic spring morning, May 14, 2011, the life of 29-year-old Elisia Degreaffenried was violently cut short in a senseless act of violence on the west side of Detroit. Just one month away from welcoming her baby boy into the world, the expectant mother's future was stolen from her and her unborn child.
In the early hours, at approximately 5:30 a.m., near the intersection of Eight Mile Road and Livernois, Degreaffenried and her boyfriend, Tobias Anderson, went to meet an individual at
Santa Rosa and Chippewa streets. It was there that they were ambushed by an unknown assailant. The attacker robbed the couple and then opened fire. Degreaffenried was fatally wounded in the shooting. Her boyfriend, Tobias Anderson, was shot multiple times in the face but miraculously survived the brutal assault.
In the wake of the devastating loss, family members pleaded with the public for any information that could lead to the killer's capture. Crime Stoppers of Michigan offered a $2,500 reward in hopes of generating leads that would help solve the double homicide of a mother and her unborn son. Despite the reward and the pleas from a grieving family, the case has grown cold over the years. No arrests have been made in connection with the murders, and no suspects have been publicly identified, leaving a profound sense of loss and an unanswered cry for justice for Elisia Degreaffenried and her baby boy.
