On May 26, 2014, Jamie N. Mathews, a 37-year-old woman from Riverside, OH, tragically lost her life in a suspected murder-suicide. The incident occurred outside her home on Elmshaven Drive, where she was shot by Randy L. Grimm, 51, of Springfield. Grimm then took his own life shortly after. Witnesses reported that Grimm arrived at Mathews' residence and shot her before turning the gun on himself.
The Riverside Police Department, along with officers from Dayton and Butler Township, responded to the scene and found both victims outside the home. Mathews was pronounced dead at the scene, while Grimm was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he later died. The Montgomery County Coroner's office identified the victims the following morning.
Grimm and Mathews were co-workers at Grimm Properties, a business in Springfield that specialized in renovating foreclosed homes. The nature of their relationship beyond a professional one remains unclear. The investigation revealed that Grimm shot Mathews multiple times in the torso, while he shot himself in the head. The shooting was witnessed by Mathews' juvenile son and her adult brother.
