In the warm evening light outside a Southern California shopping mall, a day of leisure turned into a scene of unimaginable horror for Patricia McKay, a 68-year-old woman, and her husband. The couple was waiting for a ride when their lives were violently interrupted. Two men, their faces obscured by masks, sprang from a white sedan. One of the assailants brandished a gun, pressing it to her husband's head and forcing him to the ground in an attempt to steal his watch.
