Dennis J. Lucak, a 72-year-old male of unspecified ethnicity, was tragically killed on November 12, 2018, in North Royalton, Ohio. Dennis, a retired RTA bus driver and supervisor, was also a longtime deacon at Archangel Michael Orthodox Church in Broadview Heights. His death, along with that of his wife Helen, was ruled a homicide by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office. Both victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds, with Dennis dying from gunshot wounds to his upper body.

The investigation into Dennis and Helen Lucak's deaths led to the arrest of their 44-year-old son, Michael Lucak, also known as Michael Brewer. Michael was charged with two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated burglary, and one count of felony theft. He was taken into custody at a Medina hotel, where investigators recovered evidence, including a gun. Michael had a history of domestic violence and other criminal charges, including a previous arrest for domestic violence against his father.

The tragic incident occurred at the Lucak's Harbour Light Drive condominium, where they were found dead on Sunday afternoon. Dennis' sister became concerned when they did not show up for church, prompting her to contact the police. Investigators discovered that some items were missing from the family home, and these items were later found in Michael's possession. The motive for the murders remains unclear, but the evidence suggests a troubled relationship between Michael and his parents.

The case drew significant attention due to the Lucaks' active involvement in their community and church. Dennis was remembered as a devoted deacon and Helen as a beloved retired teacher. The community was shocked by the tragic loss, and a special service was held in their honor at the Archangel Michael Orthodox Church.

Michael Lucak's bond hearing was held in Parma Municipal Court, where he was held on a $10 million bond. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing and faced the possibility of life in prison or the death penalty for the aggravated murder charges. The case remains a poignant reminder of the impact of family violence and the importance of addressing mental health issues within families.
