On April 17, 2019, Yaisa Cordero, a 41-year-old woman from London, Ohio, was tragically shot and killed outside her home along with her 25-year-old daughter, Joceline Cordero. The suspect, identified as 54-year-old James Evans Jr., was the ex-boyfriend of Yaisa Cordero. Evans was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after the incident.

According to friends and neighbors, Evans had made threats against Yaisa prior to the shooting. Yaisa's 21-year-old son also approached Evans with a baseball bat as he was leaving the residence, which led to Evans firing a shot that grazed the son's shoulder. Neighbors called 911 after hearing the commotion and witnessing the shooting.

The investigation revealed that Evans had a history of verbal and threatened physical abuse towards Yaisa. Despite the threats, Yaisa had tried to help Evans change his ways, even taking him to a church for his baptism. However, the situation escalated, leading to the tragic events of that day.

The case was investigated by London police, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation . No further arrests or litigations were pursued as the primary suspect was deceased.

A GoFundMe account was set up to cover the funeral expenses for Yaisa and Joceline Cordero, reflecting the community's support and the impact of their loss.
