In the spring of 2013, the life of 18-year-old Demetrius Felder was tragically cut short in a cold-blooded murder on the west side of Detroit. The young man was shot and killed on or around May 19th, his body later discovered in the 12,000 block of Faust. His family's final conversation with him was filled with normalcy, a discussion with his mother about attending church the next morning, giving no indication of the violence that would soon befall him.
The hours that followed his
disappearance were fraught with anxiety for his loved ones. Their worry intensified when a friend of Demetrius made a series of disturbing phone calls to his mother. The first call, made from Demetrius's own phone, was abruptly ended when his mother questioned why the friend had her son's phone. A second call from the same individual delivered the devastating news that she should go to the morgue to identify her son's body. When pressed for how he knew this, the caller simply stated, 'I just know,' before disconnecting the line.
To this day, the murder of Demetrius Felder remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made in the case. The suspicious friend who made the phone calls has not been publicly identified as a suspect, and the investigation has grown cold over the years. Law enforcement and the victim's family continue to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case and finally bring a measure of justice for a young life taken too soon.
