Constable Zeb B. Lancaster, aged 26, was a dedicated officer of the Pikeville Police Department in North Carolina. On June 13, 1900, he was tragically shot and killed at a local saw mill. Lancaster was attempting to arrest a man for wife beating when the suspect, who managed to escape, shot him. The suspect was identified but was never apprehended.
