On the Fourth of July in 2013, what should have been a festive day on the east side of Detroit turned into a scene of violence and loss. That evening, Demetrius Jackson Jr., a young man just two days shy of his 26th birthday, was enjoying a game of dice with a group of people at a home in the 1100 block of Stringham Court. The friendly gathering was abruptly shattered when an unknown Black male approached the group and opened fire, striking Demetrius.
