Sharon Tucker Stone, a 46-year-old woman from Union, NC, tragically lost her life on January 1, 2006. Her death was part of a series of murders committed by Scott Wilson Williams, a serial killer who was later convicted for the deaths of three women over a span of nine years. Williams, who was 42 years old at the time of his arrest in March 2006, was identified as an acquaintance of Stone.
The investigation into Sharon Tucker Stone's death revealed that her body was found mutilated and
shot in the head, similar to the other victims. The Union County—Chesterfield County Homicide Task Force, along with the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI, worked together to gather evidence against Williams. This evidence included DNA, ballistics, witness identification from surviving victims, and incriminating statements made by Williams himself.
Williams was arrested on March 9, 2006, and later entered an Alford plea, acknowledging that the prosecution had enough evidence to convict him of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to three consecutive life sentences without parole on July 17, 2008. In addition to the murder charges, Williams also entered Alford pleas to charges of first-degree kidnapping, rape, and sexual offenses against two other women.
The case against Williams was one of the most gruesome in the Charlotte area in recent years, and it highlighted the predatory nature of his crimes. Williams was portrayed as a fetishist and predator who targeted women, torturing and killing them. His defense did not dispute the overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution.
Sharon Tucker Stone's death, along with the deaths of Sharon House Pressley and Christina Outz Parker, brought a sense of closure to the families of the victims, although the pain of their loss remains. Williams is currently imprisoned at Alexander Correctional Institution, serving his life sentences without the possibility of parole.
