Will Hughes, a 19-year-old male from Oakboro, NC, tragically lost his life on March 7, 2014, in what authorities have deemed an accidental shooting. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of East 1st Street. According to Oakboro Police Chief Joe Lowder, Hughes was with a friend who was showing him a gun when it accidentally discharged. Paramedics rushed Hughes to Stanly County Medical Center, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
