According to reports, Campbell was shot and killed by his girlfriend, Christa Anita Colson, during an argument that morning. The incident occurred at Campbell's residence, where Colson retrieved a handgun and shot him once in the chest. Campbell managed to run to a nearby residence but succumbed to his injuries on the front porch of that house.
