In March of 2014, the city of Detroit was rocked by the discovery of the remains of 26-year-old Brittney Brown, a mother of two. Her body was found on March 22nd in a duffel bag in an alley on the city's west side, near Kentucky Street and Puritan Avenue. The discovery was made by a man who initially mistook the bag for a mannequin.
Brown had been missing for a month before her body was found. She was last seen by her family when she left for a local restaurant.
Investigators reported a possible sighting of her near I-96 and Telegraph Road at some point before her death, but the exact timing of this sighting remains unclear. Relatives indicated that Brown had mental health challenges and had walked away from her home on a previous occasion.
An autopsy revealed the horrific nature of her death; she had been raped, bound, and set on fire. Police believe she was killed at a different location before her body was dumped in the alley. Despite the brutality of the crime and the passage of time, no arrests have been made in connection with her murder. Her case remains unsolved, leaving her family and community still searching for answers and justice for her death.
