Charlie Winfield Spann, a 73-year-old man from Elkin, North Carolina, was found dead on May 11, 2016. The Surry County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting on Freemont Lane in Elkin at approximately 11:51 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Charlie Winfield Spann lying in the driveway of his residence, having been shot multiple times with a shotgun. Despite efforts to save him, Mr. Spann succumbed to his injuries.
