Isaac Peter Thomas, a 34-year-old man from Polkton, NC, was tragically shot and killed on January 4, 2017. The father was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his son.
According to the incident report filed by Corporal David S. Burroughs and a search warrant completed by Detective B. S. Drake, the victim's girlfriend stated that she and Isaac Peter Thomas had gone to visit his father. Upon their arrival, Isaac Peter Thomas knocked on the door, but his father told them to go away, saying he did not want to see them. The victim then punched the door, prompting his father to fire a single shot through the door, which struck Isaac Peter Thomas in the upper right arm. The victim screamed and ran towards the car, where he collapsed and died.
When the authorities arrived at the scene, they found Isaac Peter Thomas's father calm and cooperative. He admitted to shooting his son and led the officers to the weapon, a Ruger LCP .380 handgun, which was found on a small table in the living room. The officers detained the father for safety reasons and secured the crime scene. There was no indication of drugs or alcohol affecting either the suspect or the victim at the time of the incident.
The investigation revealed that both the victim and his father had called 911 after the shooting. The authorities searched three vehicles and the mobile home as part of their investigation.
