Angela Dawn Tramble, a 45-year-old woman from Maiden, North Carolina, tragically lost her life on March 7, 2017. Angela, who was born on April 16, 1971, was remembered fondly by her friends and family. Her death was a result of a violent altercation with her boyfriend, Jeffrey Dwayne Hoppes. The couple had a troubled relationship, and on the day of her death, Angela had sought to end their relationship. Upon returning home from work, an argument ensued, leading to a fatal confrontation.
Jeffrey Hoppes, 51 years old at the time, was convicted of second-degree murder for Angela's death. On the day of the incident, Hoppes contacted his mother, confessing that he had killed Angela and intended to take his own life. Multiple 911 calls were made, reporting shots fired at their residence. When deputies arrived, they found Angela deceased in the living room with a 7-millimeter rifle on her body and a belt wrapped around her neck. Hoppes had attempted to take his own life by shooting himself in the face but survived, albeit with severe injuries to his jaw. He was apprehended at a neighbor's house, following a trail of blood from the crime scene.
The investigation was led by Brandon Styers of the Catawba County Sheriff's Office, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jamie Adams. Hoppes pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 18 to 22 years in prison. The case drew significant attention due to the violent nature of the crime and the subsequent legal proceedings.
