Shawte Shaniqua Williams, a 24-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on May 2, 2017, in Garysburg, North Carolina. Shawte, affectionately known as "Mama" and "Tae" by her family and friends, was a beloved mother of two young children, Shyelle Williams and Jayceon Cotton. She was a quiet person with a big heart and unlimited potential. Shawte had a passion for music, dance, and drawing, and she took great pride in being a mother. She was also a proud member of the United States Army and a track star during her high school years.
On the fateful day of May 2, 2017, Shawte Williams was found dead near U.S. Highway 301 and Macon Price Road, just outside of Garysburg. She had been shot 18 times, with multiple gunshot wounds to her head, chest, and upper body. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Northampton County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into her death, which was determined to be a result of foul play.
