Leon Deondre Carmon, a 25-year-old African American male, was found dead on July 26, 2018, in Cove City, North Carolina. His body was discovered inside his 2015 Nissan Sentra, parked on the side of Woodrow McCoy Road. Carmon had been reported missing by his family the previous day. The Craven County Sheriff's Office confirmed that he had died from a gunshot wound, and his death was investigated as a homicide.

In April 2024, nearly six years after Carmon's death, the Craven County Sheriff's Office made a breakthrough in the case. Gerard Alexander Brimmer, a 28-year-old male from New Bern, was arrested and charged with Carmon's murder. The arrest followed a search warrant executed at Brimmer's home and additional interviews conducted by investigators. Brimmer was held without bond at the Craven County Detention Center, with his first court appearance set for April 26, 2024.
The investigation into Carmon's death has been ongoing, with law enforcement officials continuing to seek information from the public. The Craven County Sheriff's Office, along with the State Bureau of Investigation, has been dedicated to finding those responsible for this heinous crime.
