Markel Lee Gerald, a 26-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on September 12, 2019, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Markel was born on January 15, 1993, in Rochester, New York, and was known for his musical talents and love for rap music. He was a devoted husband, son, brother, and uncle, who cherished his family and friends.
On the early morning of September 12, 2019, around 3 a.m., police responded to a report of an unresponsive person in the yard of a home in the
200 block of Davis Street in Fayetteville. Upon arrival, officers found Markel Lee Gerald with gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.
The investigation led to the arrest of 24-year-old Raekwon Lamaar Ravi Boykin, who was taken into custody without incident by members of the Fayetteville Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and U.S. Marshals. Boykin was charged with First Degree Murder and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. He is currently in custody at the Cumberland County Detention Center and was denied bond.
Markel's death has left a void in the lives of his loved ones, who remember him as a fun, loving, and respectful young man. His musical genius and ability to bring joy to those around him will be deeply missed.
