On a summer evening in Detroit, a joyous block party turned into a scene of violence, leaving 19-year-old Malik Jones dead. The gathering, which took place on June 20, 2015, near Webb Street and Dexter Avenue, was filled with families and children enjoying a barbecue on a basketball court. The festive atmosphere was shattered when gunfire erupted, causing chaos among the estimated 400 to 500 attendees.
