The woman who made the call identified the suspect as her ex-boyfriend, Eduardo Samual Bamaca-Domingo, a 37-year-old Hispanic male from Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Bamaca-Domingo then fled the scene in a gray or silver Mazda-3, four-door vehicle with North Carolina license plate TAW-6135. The Onslow County Sheriff's Office has charged Bamaca-Domingo with an open count of murder and considers him armed and dangerous. The authorities have been actively searching for Bamaca-Domingo, who remains at large.

Magdalena Lopez received the call about her brother's death at 6:30 a.m. and mentioned that Juan Lopez Lopez's six-year-old daughter was one of two children present in the home during the shooting. Magdalena Lopez has taken custody of her brother's daughter but remains fearful until Bamaca-Domingo is apprehended.
