Quashawn Pearsall, a 19-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on November 26, 2021, in Wilmington, North Carolina. The incident occurred at the Bennett Village Place apartments, located off Piner Road in the Monkey Junction area. On that fateful day, several neighbors made panicked 911 calls reporting a shooting. The New Hanover Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene just after 3 p.m., where they found Quashawn Pearsall with a gunshot wound.
He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center but later succumbed to his injuries.
The aftermath of the shooting was chaotic, with neighbors describing the sound of multiple gunshots and the sight of people rushing to help the victim. One neighbor recounted hearing the "pow, pow, pow, pow, pow" of gunshots and quickly retreating inside her apartment. Another neighbor, who was in the parking lot when the shooting occurred, described how his car was shot as he tried to get out of the way. An Uber driver also reported that their car was damaged in a hit-and-run in the parking lot of the apartment complex by a red van believed to be driven by the shooter.
The investigation led to the arrest of Ahmad Shaheed Tate, a 22-year-old male, who was charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting. His girlfriend, 21-year-old Regina Michelle Davis, was charged with accessory after the fact. Deputies believe the incident was gang-related. The New Hanover Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on King Street, where they arrested Tate. He is currently being held in the New Hanover County Detention Center with no bond, while Davis received a $100,000 secure bond.
