Jacqueline Beckwith, a 54-year-old Black female from Wake Forest, North Carolina, was found deceased on September 7, 2022, in a case that underscored the deadly consequences of intimate partner violence. That afternoon, Wake Forest police first responded to a shooting report at a local gas station, but no victim was found at the scene. Roughly 90 minutes later, around 1:30 p.m., a man arrived at the Youngsville Police Department and told officers there was a dead woman in his vehicle.
Police confirmed that the woman was Jacqueline Beckwith.
The man who brought her body to the station was identified as 33-year-old Terrance J’Von Hartsfield, a Black male from Clayton, North Carolina. He was immediately arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Investigations soon revealed that Hartsfield and Beckwith had a deeply troubled relationship marked by repeated domestic violence. Court records showed that in May 2022, Hartsfield allegedly burned Beckwith’s face with a cigarette. A month later, he reportedly struck her multiple times near the eye. These were not isolated incidents. At the time of her death, Beckwith had a restraining order in place and was taking steps to permanently leave the relationship.
Family members expressed their devastation and disbelief. Her nephew questioned how Hartsfield was able to access her in violation of the court order, while her godson described her as a strong, loving woman deeply devoted to her family. Jacqueline Beckwith, a 54-year-old Black woman, was memorialized by loved ones as a caring mother and grandmother whose life was senselessly ended. She was laid to rest following funeral services held later that month.
Terrance Hartsfield, who remained in custody without bond, faced the possibility of the death penalty if convicted. However, he died before the case could be brought to trial. On June 9, 2025, Hartsfield, aged 36, died while in custody. His obituary confirmed the date and place of death but did not include details about the circumstances. Funeral services and visitation were held on June 28, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
