On December 14, 2013, Clifton Chatman, a 16-year-old from San Francisco, was killed in what was described as a botched robbery attempt. The incident occurred near Alemany Boulevard in the Bernal Heights neighborhood. Chatman, along with a group of accomplices, attempted to rob a man, demanding his cell phone and other belongings.
