In the early morning hours of April 14, 2017, James Carter, a 54-year-old Air Force veteran, found himself at the corner of John R and Edgevale in Detroit. It is believed he was in the area to visit a friend, a simple act that tragically placed him in the path of an unknown assailant. In what authorities believe was a robbery gone wrong, a struggle ensued, and Carter was shot in the chest. His killer fled, leaving him to die alone on the street.
