In the spring of 2018, the life of 37-year-old Heather Dawn Mouton was tragically cut short in Crowley, Louisiana. On May 25th of that year, the mother of three was found with two gunshot wounds to her head. The authorities quickly identified her husband, Demetric Cornell Savoy, as the primary suspect in her death.

In June 2022, nearly four years after Heather Mouton's death, a jury found Demetric Cornell Savoy guilty of second-degree murder. In addition to the murder conviction, he was also found guilty of unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling. The court handed down a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murder charge, ensuring that Savoy would spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for his actions. He also received a concurrent six-year sentence for the unauthorized entry charge.
