Antonio Galtney, a 28-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on May 7, 2015, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on the 7000 block of South Sangamon Street in the Englewood neighborhood. Galtney was involved in an altercation with Christopher Harp, a 30-year-old man, over Harp's girlfriend. The confrontation escalated, leading to Harp shooting Galtney.
Galtney was shot in the armpit area and the thigh and was pronounced dead later that evening at Stroger Hospital.
Surveillance footage captured Harp parking a silver vehicle in an alley behind a residence on the 7000 block of South Morgan Street. He then walked through a gate, appearing to hide an object on his right side. As he approached the front of a home, Harp extended his arm, pointing an object at another person. Police found two .45-caliber shell casings at the scene and searched Harp's vehicle, discovering a gun that was not used in the shooting and an empty holster fitting a .45-caliber gun.
Witnesses who had known both Galtney and Harp for about 20 years identified Harp as the gunman. Another witness identified Harp from the surveillance video. Police obtained an arrest warrant for Harp, who is known as "Head," and he was arrested on March 24, 2016. Harp was charged with first-degree murder and held on a $2 million bond. The case was presented at the Leighton Criminal Court Building, where Assistant State's Attorney Anna Sedelmaier provided details of the incident. Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil presided over the bond hearing.
