Christopher Crim, a 24-year-old white male from Festus, Missouri, was fatally shot on June 6, 2015, in Caseyville, Illinois. The incident occurred around 2:00 AM outside a trailer home on Cankelly Lane. Crim, along with John Fox, 25, and Anthony Pentecost, 22, drove approximately 50 miles to confront Crim's ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, Dustin Prestito, 23. The confrontation began when Crim and his accomplices attacked the ex-girlfriend as she was leaving the trailer.
Pentecost struck her in the face, causing visible injuries, and the trio damaged her car by smashing the hood and breaking the windshield in multiple places.
Following the attack on the ex-girlfriend, the men forced their way into the trailer, where they confronted Prestito. The commotion woke Prestito's brother, who armed himself with a gun and confronted the intruders. After a warning shot was fired, the altercation moved outside. While Fox and Pentecost retreated to their vehicle, Crim retrieved a blunt object and threatened to beat Prestito and his brother to death. As Crim approached, Prestito's brother opened fire, striking Crim. Police arrived shortly after and found Crim lying next to the house with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation determined that Prestito's brother acted in self-defense, and no charges were filed against him. However, John Fox and Anthony Pentecost were arrested and charged with home invasion and mob action, both felonies. Pentecost also faced a misdemeanor battery charge for assaulting the ex-girlfriend. Bail for both men was set at $60,000. The case highlighted the violent escalation of a domestic dispute and the tragic consequences that followed.
