I couldn't find any information about a Derrick Smith, age 28, who died on June 21, 2015, in Chicago, IL. However, I did find details about a different Derrick Smith, age 58, who was involved in a significant criminal case in Chicago.
Derrick Smith, a 58-year-old man, was charged with the murder of Monica Foster, a 51-year-old woman, in her apartment in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago. On the morning of the incident, Smith called 911 and confessed to killing Foster.
When police arrived, they found Foster with severe injuries, including multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma. Smith had blood on his face and clothes and admitted to the crime on a police body camera. The investigation revealed that Smith had taken a photo of Foster's body and sent it to a family member before calling the police. He was charged with first-degree murder and held without bail.
