In the early hours of October 10, a 59-year-old woman who lived alone on the 4400 block of Yender Avenue phoned 911, reporting that someone was violently kicking at her front and back doors; authorities later identified the man at the scene as Anthony Aguilar, age 35.

Responding officers arrived around 5:16 a.m. and encountered the 35-year-old male outside the residence.
Police said he was armed with objects in his hands and ignored repeated commands to show his hands; a Taser was deployed but had no effect.
One officer then fired, and the 35-year-old male was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was later pronounced dead.
The DuPage County coroner's preliminary autopsy found a single gunshot wound to the right lower chest as the cause of death.
Investigators processed the scene and reported recovering a shiny metallic scraper and a claw hammer that the 35-year-old male had been holding; prosecutors later stated he threw the hammer toward an officer while still holding another object and continued to defy commands.
After a review by the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office, the shooting was ruled justified in December 2015.

The woman inside the home was uninjured after barricading herself in a bathroom and waiting for police to arrive.
Three officers were treated and released from a nearby Edwards hospital after the encounter. Police characterized the attempted home invasion as random and said the resident did not know the 35-year-old Anthony Aguilar.
