Don Jouravleff, a 52-year-old white male, died on May 27, 2017, in McHenry, Illinois. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a beloved member of his community. On the night of his death, masked men forced their way into his home on Davis Avenue in unincorporated McHenry. During the home invasion, Don Jouravleff was shot twice and succumbed to his injuries later that day.
His wife, Donna Mills, was also robbed at gunpoint, and the burglars fled with $3,000 in cash.
The investigation into Don Jouravleff's murder led to the arrest of Adam C. Morris, a 46-year-old man from McCullom Lake. Morris was found guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery, burglary, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He was sentenced to 71 years in prison. Two other men, Charles A. Campo and Jared J. Fox, were also charged in connection with the murder. They testified against Morris during his trial, admitting that prosecutors planned to drop murder charges against them if they pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a firearm. They were sentenced to less than 10 years in prison.
The case was investigated by the McHenry County Major Investigations Assistance Team and prosecuted by McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorneys. The trio had planned the robbery after Morris discovered the $3,000 in the basement of the Jouravleff home while working for Donna Mills' moving company. The group decided to break into the couple's home after a night of drinking. The tragic event left a lasting impact on the community, and Don Jouravleff's memory continues to be honored by those who knew him.
