David Sankey, a 16-year-old African American male from Champaign, Illinois, tragically lost his life on August 28, 2018. David was a former student at Central High School and was also part of the READY program. On the night of his death, Champaign Police responded to a report of shots fired and found David with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Carle Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The investigation into David Sankey's death led to the arrest of two suspects. Darrion White, 19 years old at the time, was initially charged with murder and weapons offenses. The second suspect, Jaquaveon Faust, 22 years old, was arrested in connection with David's murder. Faust was believed to be the one who pulled the trigger. He was apprehended by Champaign Police with the assistance of the Street Crimes Task Force. Faust was charged with murder and was held in Champaign County Jail awaiting further court proceedings. The bond for his arrest warrant was set at $2 million.
